An oversized zip-up hoodie is the piece you wear the most and think about the least. Open in September, zipped in January, over everything in between. Ours is the Scattered zip-up: 500 GSM French terry, cut oversized, true to size, with the design running down both sleeves. This is how it fits, how people wear it, and which one to start with.
- Oversized is in the cut, not the label. Order your normal size.
- Red Letters zip-ups: 500 GSM 100% cotton French terry, baggy sleeves, hidden side pockets, ribbed cuffs, RL heart enamel zipper. $180, S–3XL.
- Wear it open over a tee, zipped with the matching sweatpants, or as the jacket from October through March.
- Start with the Camo Gem, the Trust God (black or royal), or the Black Lightning if you want the one reviewers keep mentioning.
Oversized is not "a size up"
A lot of "oversized" zip-ups are regular hoodies sold with the advice to size up. That gives you long sleeves, a dropped hem and shoulders in the wrong place. A real oversized cut moves the shoulder seam down, widens the body and the sleeve, and keeps the length where a hoodie should sit. That's built into the pattern, so you order what you always order.
Every Red Letters zip-up is cut that way. If you're between sizes, stay at your usual one. The room is already there.
Anatomy of the Scattered zip-up
- Fabric — heavyweight 500 GSM French terry, 100% cotton. Heavy enough to replace a jacket, soft on the inside from day one.
- Sleeves — oversized and baggy on purpose. The lettering, embroidery or pearls live here. Front gets the nod. Sleeves get the question.
- Zipper — full-zip front with the RL heart enamel zipper. It's the part you touch fifty times a day, so it's the part we didn't cheap out on.
- Pockets — hidden side pockets. Clean front, hands warm.
- Cuffs and hem — ribbed, so the silhouette holds when the zip is open.
- Finish — chain stitch embroidery, 3D puff print, pearl embellishment or glow-in-the-dark ink depending on the piece.
- Sizes — S–3XL. $180.

How to wear an oversized zip-up
Three ways, in the order most people find them.
Open, over a tee
The default. Zip down, a heavy cotton tee underneath, the sleeves doing the talking. A plain tee lets the zip-up carry it; a graphic tee turns it into a front-and-back thing. Any three tees are $150, which is how most people build the under-layer.
Zipped, as the set
Zip to the chest, matching sweatpants, hood down. The Trust God zip-ups have sweatpants in the same 500 GSM French terry and the same colorway, $120. One piece top to bottom.
As the jacket
From October on, the zip-up is the outer layer. 500 GSM is warm enough for most of the country until real winter, and it layers under a coat when it isn't. Hood up, zip to the chin, sleeves pushed to show the cuffs.
Zip-up or pullover?
Same fabric, same weight, same sleeves. The pullover is one clean front and stays on all day. The zip-up is the one you take on and off, which is why it's the one that gets worn more. If you only get one, get the zip-up. If you get two, get one of each.
Which one to start with
- Camo Gem Zip-Up — custom camo, scattered lettering, pearls. People look past it, then look again.
- Black Trust Zip-Up and Blue Trust Zip-Up — chain stitch embroidery throughout. The ones with sweatpants to match.
- Don't Miss Zip-Up — reworked original with glow-in-the-dark accents on the green.
- Black Lightning Zip-Up — the one Laurie, a verified buyer, called "beyond expectation" on weight and quality: "I expect to have it for years to come."
